Five Layer Practice: a workshop on the Koshas

This workshop provides an integrative approach to understanding the different layers of your being. In yogic philosophy, the Koshas, often translated as "layers" or "sheaths", are a holistic system for mapping the self. The five layers are physical, energetic, mental/emotional, wisdom and bliss. In this workshop, we will gain a clearer understanding of our individual relationship to each individual layer and also observe how the layers interact and coexist with each other. Through movement, meditation, observation and reflection we will work to engage and respond to the qualities of each layer with more compassion and allowance, and less judgment and attachment. By working with the Koshas in your yoga practice, you allow your yoga practice to become a place to transcend your limiting patterns and align with your highest self.

The first portion of the class will be movement based, and the second portion will be composed of meditation, reflection and relaxation. Physically appropriate for students who have been to at least 10 yoga classes.

Lindsey Crow : Teaching Residency

Join visiting teacher Lindsey Crow for practice at Supta Yoga Nantucket Friday September 8th through Tuesday September 12th.

Lindsey is a New Orleans Native and a senior teacher at Reyn Studios, currently visiting Nantucket. She was cosmically guided to the practice of yoga because she deeply needed a healthy way to stay wild and grow spiritually. She was inspired by the way yoga seemed to remove stress and create a sense of personal rhythm through intense situations. Lindsey graduated from the Swan River Yoga Teacher Training in 2008. Since then, she has completed advanced teacher trainings with Michele Baker and Kelly Haas, including a specialized training in Yoga Therapy for injuries and physical ailments. Lindsey is a full-time yogi. She teaches an impressive amount of weekly classes of all types including workshops, privates, and conventions. As a teacher, she believes in thoroughly integrating principles of alignment with principles of movement into creative, fluid, and truly fun classes. When Lindsey is not teaching in New Orleans, you can find her leading adventurous yoga retreats around the world with Yoga Caravan

In class we will have fun moving through sequences with different qualities, some being very meditative, others more dynamic, leading to a feeling of expansiveness and freedom in our bodies.  

No previous dance experience required.  

Comfortable yoga/dance style attire is recommended.  A scarf around the hips or skirt can be worn to help accent movements but is not required. 

There will be some stretching and core work done on the floor so please bring a mat or towel if you prefer to not be directly on the floor.  Mats are also available to rent for $2.

Rebuild, Refine, & Release

Deepen your yoga practice by priming the movement systems to create more efficient muscular activation in poses. Ieva and Alena will guide you into static yoga poses that will be followed with a combination of resistance stretching, somatic movement and targeted muscular activation. This engages smaller muscle groups allowing you to refine your practice. Each workshop will be completed with a guided Yoga Nidra Meditation to facilitate release, renewal and integration. Build awareness of how the joints and muscles move together to affect changes in the nervous system. These workshops are being offered in a series of 3, targeting specific areas of the body. They can be taken as a stand-alone experience or you can enjoy all three for whole body renewal!

July 24th Workshop 1 focuses on the integrity of the hands and wrists, and the relationship to the shoulders, neck and ribs.

August 7 Workshop 2 focuses on the mobility and positioning of the feet and their relationship to the knees, hips and back.

August 28 Workshop 3 integrates the head, spine and pelvis into a full body awareness during practice and beyond.

THE GODDESS SESSIONS :

Tantra traditions recognize the Goddess as the One Great Source and creative mover and power of illuminated consciousness. The Goddesses have endless names and endless faces, but each are the very creative push of anything becoming, forming, happening, and acting. 

Each time a story is told of a Goddess, it’s a gift of understanding waiting to be opened. Their stories are our stories, and through their images of loss and gain, creation and destruction, devotion and complete independence, they inspire an awakening of power, wisdom, and the very qualities they embody.

Guest Teacher Shannon Hill

Join visiting teacher Shannon Hill for class this upcoming week, sign up is available through MindBody.

Shannon grew up in a family of yogis and was first inspired by her parents, both long time practitioners. She developed her own practice while traveling in Australia and Southeast Asia. Drawn to the active meditative element created by linking breath and movement, she completed her initial teacher training with Karolina Sharma in Dharamsala, India. She has since studied with Michele Baker and Geoffrey Roniger in New Orleans, Louisiana. Shannon teaches dynamic, Vinyasa flow classes with a strong emphasis on alignment, creative sequencing, and hands-on assists. She has taught in New Orleans over the past few years and remains and avid student of yoga, committed to deepening her understanding of the spiritual philosophies embodied in the practice. Her approach is organic and fluid; her class designed to cultivate awareness through a challenging yet accessible flow infused with intention.
