Kirtan is an ancient Indian practice of Bhakti/devotional yoga. It is a call & response form of chanting intended to powerfully renew & transform energy that helps us reconnect with the Divinity that resides within all of us.
Each chant revolves around repeating a particular mantra that often feature the names of the myriad gods and goddesses from the Hindu tradition. The key with mantra chanting is repetition and in this respect, Kirtan can be a very simple and powerful way to meditate, to help quiet the mind and actually change our psyche.
